The Secret Sea Serpent Society

Jafir resumes his search for his missing sister, Boomtina, and now, his friend Tesfaya; both taken by outlaws in the time of slavery in 19th century Africa.

His quest for their safe return takes him to the sea in North Africa where he survives falling into the murky waters of Massawa Bay and finds himself on board the Royal British Navy’s HMS Sea Serpent. Will he find them before they disappear forever?

Backed by the Sea Serpent’s First Mate, Mr. Murphy and a band of tough, but friendly shipmates, Jafir learns to become a sailor and becomes a spy in the Sea Serpent’s efforts to stop the Earl of Rochester, a treacherous madman threatening their lives and safety.

The Journey To The Sea

Jafir is a brave young adventurer growing up in dangerous, lawless Ethiopia in 1830. After a day of play on the Savannah, ten-year-old Jafir and his younger sister, Boomtina, head home to their village when they’re chased and attacked by a hungry lion. They run and hide from the lion in a giant Baobab tree.

Jafir vanquishes the lion during a storm, but he and his sister become lost and cannot find their way home. Outlaws then capture Boomtina, leading Jafir on a trek to find her and bring her safely home. The more he searches for his sister, the farther he finds himself from home, and the closer Jafir comes to danger and adventures that will test his will to live.

A World Away

Jafir leaves Africa and his homeland behind on his quest to find his younger sister Boomtina and best friend Tesfaya, still in the hands of outlaws.

Now a legend as the youngest Lieutenant in the

history of Britain’s Royal Navy, Jafir sails with the HMS Sea Serpent and crew around Africa to England.

Jafir’s new arch enemy is imprisoned on the voyage, but the dastardly Sea Serpent King escapes after the ship pulls into London.

Jafir meets tremendous prejudice as a young black boy in Europe’s largest city. He also makes new friends, including the King, and his daughter, the princess. Jafir connects with Ishmael Freeman, an escaped American slave who becomes his mentor. A group of homeless boys tests Jafir in ways he never expected. Will he survive threats, illness, and the vengeance of the Sea Serpent King, all while searching for the ones he loves?
